Square Enix on the All American Hero

It is not such a big surprise that the east sees the more traditional hero as a man who can overcome every and any circumstances by pure will power alone, but in the west the view is different says Square Enix who believe that the west demand an believable character by adding more muscular physics onto its body and giving him an age proper age which shows his “experience” within the field.

The importance of “believability” is strongly emphasised in the North American market.

Why are American characters always older guys? This can be explained with reference to “believability.”

For a protagonist who triumphs against adversity to be believable in the eyes of players, they want him to be tough and highly experienced.

This isn’t limited to characters – in “Fallout 3″ you see the example of Nuka Cola, which gives health when drunk but also poisons the body with radiation. At first this doesn’t seem realistic at all, but when you consider the setting is post-apocalyptic it becomes “believable.”

This piece of information was introduced to the world by the Square Enix at CEDEC 2010, where it has along with the differences in cosmetics of an hero also been pointed out that it would be best if the two worlds did not co-operate to develop a game, as it could lead to communication issues amongst others.

Much have been hinted at from developers from the east on how to “successfully” penetrate the gaming market and conquer. However no matter the times it has been tried out over and over again, it has not been able to produce the anticipated profit.
