Rape Eroge Has Been Banned

It has finally occurred, what many did not see coming, but due to the recent delivered media hysteria, EOCS has ordered a complete ban on games featuring rape and violence as their theme.

The organization EOCS, or “Ethics Organization of Computer Software” (also known as Sofurin in Japanese), has issued the ban. They are eroge industry’s largest classification body, with some 200 member companies.

There are estimated 20% of market places games involved with themes such as BDSM and similar that could very well come to be banned entirely.

However, if the history books have teached us anything is that to never repeat the same mistakes. A decade ago, EOCS put a ban on loli related eroge, which led to a complex for the nations native inhibitors, and thus the ban had been removed so that loli games could continue to deliver it’s content to the demanding audience.

Contents Soft Association“, is an organization that largely allows loli eroge and is much less stringent when it comes down to the contents, has no regulations against violence. It’s members will most likely see a boosting increase as times go.

That is not to say that organizations are toothless and companies are allowed to do whatever they please with. A rating is necessary for sales, and organizations themselves have a certain amount of connections to their government ministries, and have some extent of authority, which can be revoked if the ministry is displeased with their behavior.

Even though such “power” do exist, they rather put it to work by preventing disturbances to sales rather than to defend the free speech of members.

There might still be a future for these theme based eroge’s, as even though brothels are technically illegal in Japan, they still stand strong and operate openly today without any in particularly big issues. A similar settlement may be in place for eroge’s with the banned nature?
