Doctor Emmett Brown tries to explain the Legend of Zelda time line to none other than one of the reincarnations of Zelda and Link (presumably Ocarina of Time) to warn about the future, turning the already confusing time line even more so.
The reality about the Zelda is that the time line itself has not officially made into a recognizable pattern since the beginning, but as of late Nintendo has been trying to tie everything together in as nice of a possibility as possible. Though most of it is still very unclear making theories such as the (dimensional) split time line very attractive to explain it all.
