3DS, Nothing Compared to iPhone?

Epic the team behind the Gears of War titles, have for some time now impressed many with releasing its “Epic Citadel” demo based on the Unreal Engine, displaying the graphical capabilities of an iPhone/iPod. They have also gone on a limb stating that the very same demo software won’t be able to be executed on the 3DS as it has an inferior hardware specs compared to the Apple phones, and on top of that, quite overpriced.

No, it’s below our [minimum specifications], from what we can tell. We don’t have a 3DS, so there’s no way for us to verify that, but everything we’ve been led to believe is that it’s below our min-spec. You couldn’t do a game that looks like [Epic Citadel] on it, for example.

Like I said, we really don’t know enough about it to make a formal comment, but I think if they considered that our engine would be good on it, they would have probably talked to us about it.

The engine mentioned above have been tweaked to work on a next gen console level but for the Apple iPhone/iPod which have already manage to impress just about anyone who have experienced the 3D environment of the Epic Citadel. And considering that modern phones are becoming all the more powerful, the critical words used by Epic makes the impact even all the more powerful.

Here you see the Unreal Engine running Epic Citadel from an iPhone:
