Eriko Yamatani, a 58-year-old journalist turned LDP politician and now in charge of women’s affairs, has petitioned the Diet, demanding to a ban on “harmful sites” and “games with depictions of sexual violence”. Both which she see’s as is giving the opposite and harmful views on women and children, therefor “the human rights of women and children must be protected.”
If this lady has her way, this could affect just about any adult game where a woman expresses clichéd recalcitrance during sex by squealing “iya!” or “dame!”, practically all such games and most Japanese erotica in fact does this.
And as to the “harmful sites”, we have no clue on what exactly she is considering to “ban” from Japanese Internet viewers, but it does show her willingness of having her “ideals” be brought to a much more expanding audience than just the ero-gamers.
Now, how can a respectful reporter turned into a politician have such a strong view on censoring “freedom of expression”? You might already have figured out the answer. It seems like this lady has come to believe that fictional depictions of sexual violence in games harm the “human rights” of women and children, just by existing.
Like expected, once more has anything but evidence been brought up to the table when introducing these claims. Evidence crucial to prove the link between the fictional depictions of violence mixed with perversion and crimes.
The various threats to the Japanese game market sure is in a hurry bringing up claims without any proof to back it up further, but just for the sake of it. Let’s do this poll once more.. Shall we?
